A fixed cover gives all-day shade. A retractable cover on tracks lets you open the frame back up on a mild spring or winter afternoon. If you use the space mainly in summer, fixed is simpler; if you want sun in the cooler months too, go retractable.
What happens to a pergola cover in a hurricane?
Fabric covers can be removed ahead of a storm, leaving the frame to stand on its own. Plan to take the cover down once a hurricane is forecast, well before the wind arrives.
Does my HOA need to approve a pergola cover?
In many communities with architectural review, including Daniel Island, I’On, Kiawah Island, and Seabrook Island, visible changes such as a pergola cover and its color need approval. Check before ordering. We provide swatches and specifications for the application.
